11 Things We’re Looking Forward to in Myrtle Beach in 2014
Myrtle Beach really is a special place. You know that it is, and so do we. And every year as we pin a fresh new calendar to the wall there’s tons to look forward to, from the days getting longer and longer, to the weather warming up gradually day by day until we’re laying out on the sandy beach every chance we can get. But there are also tons of fun events to look forward to around town—there’s just so much to do in Myrtle Beach!
Here are a few big events we’re looking forward to in the coming year …
February – Marathon Time
The Myrtle Beach Marathon on February 15, 2014: This is the biggest and most fun marathon in Myrtle Beach, with more than 10,000 participants and many more revelers, the marathon is seriously fit fun for everyone!
March – Canadian – American Days
This is an annual celebration of our favorite neighbors to the north! Canadians have made up an important part of the fabric of Myrtle Beach for a long time, and we love to have them! We may make jokes about the Canadians, who you can find in our pools and walking the beach in weather we South Carolinians find to be frigid, but we love ‘em. Can-Am Days includes sporting events, celebrations and more.
April – Monday After the Masters
This event is one of the biggest and best celebrity pro-ams in the nation, thanks in large part to the band members of Hootie and the Blowfish. 2014 marks the 20th anniversary of this great event, which also includes awesome concerts, so it should be a banner year!
May – Memorial Day Weekend Means Summer!
Summer may not get started where you live until later, but here in Myrtle Beach all we can think about is Memorial Day weekend and the official beginning of summer!
June – The beginning of hot summer nights
OK, this may actually be our favorite of all: June means Hot Summer Nights on the Oceanfront Boardwalk is here! Free music and entertainment in downtown Myrtle Beach every night all summer long. Not to be missed!
July – Independence Day
The fourth of July is a big deal in Myrtle Beach! There is really no better place to celebrate than right here, with hot summer sun, sand and ocean waves. We’ve also got awesome fireworks!
August – Beach, Boogie & BBQ
OK, to be honest, “beach, boogie and BBQ” are pretty much three of our favorite things all summer long, but it’s also the name of a super fun and delicious festival held at The Market Common for the last nine years! There’s big prize money at stake, which brings in amaaazing competitors for some pretty serious eats.
September – Labor Day
When it’s time to say goodbye to summer, we do it in style. Labor Day weekend in Myrtle Beach is not to be missed, from the fireworks to the parties to the live music and good times on the sand.
October – Downtown Myrtle Beach Halloween
The Oceanfront Merchants’ Association has seriously stepped up its game in recent years, in an effort to make sure that the downtown area continues to thrive. While Broadway will continue to throw the biggest Halloween bash at the beach for adults, downtown is also expected to continue the trend of adding fun Halloween festivities throughout the Halloween season, from roving zombies to haunted houses and festivals for kids.
November – Black Friday Shopping
Sorry, but we really love to shop. Thanksgiving is wonderful, but it’s for time with family. It’s the day after Thanksgiving that we like to get out and find great deals at the Tanger Outlets!
December – Shadrack’s
Shadrack’s music-choreographed light show (held in 2013 and 2012 at Pelicans Park) is seriously amazing. We’re already looking forward to seeing what they come up with in 2014!
