The Myrtle Beach Boardwalk is the centerpiece of the downtown district during the summer months, and Bay View Resort — located just steps away from the 1.3-mile walkway that stretches through downtown between the beach and Ocean Boulevard — offers you a front-row seat to all the action. The Boardwalk has a full lineup of fun festivities beginning in May and running through August. Here’s a sneak peek at some of the events scheduled for the Boardwalk:

  • June 3-5, Sun Fun Festival: The 60th edition of the Sun Fun Festival returns after a five-year hiatus. Started in 1951 as a kickoff to the summer, the Sun Fun Festival returns this summer with a full lineup of activities on the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk. This year’s event will feature live music by local and regional bands the Swinging Medallions, Too Much Sylvia, The Entertainers, The Legendary Motown Revue, The Swashtones and The Castaways. Attendees can take free shag lessons, compete in dance contests, play kids’ games and witness the return of the parade that rolls down Ocean Boulevard. Enjoy watermelon, music and a fireworks show to cap the event. Admission and most activities are free.
  • June 4-5, Native Sons Salt Games: Get ready to get wet, sweaty and salty at the Third Annual Salt Games, where locals and visitors gather on the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk to compete in a wide range of water sports, beach games and extreme sports. Held on the former Pavilion site and the adjoining beachfront, the event features a 5K and kids’ fun run, lifeguard games, surfing and skateboarding contests, beach volleyball, and beach wrestling. Attendees can also take part in the fitness fun with group yoga and CrossFit exercises, and even non-athletes can get involved with cornhole tournaments, hot-dog-eating contests and a game of giant Twister on the Boardwalk. Live music, food and drinks, and surf lessons are among the many activities offered. For more information on event times and registration, visit http://www.thesaltgames.com

The Boardwalk cranks up the music on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays with live music on the main stage, along with the new Broadway’s Got Talent competitions on Fridays. The highlight of the week falls on Wednesdays for a free fireworks show over the Atlantic Ocean.
