Held on special nights throughout the year, Murder Mystery Dinner Theater puts patrons in the middle of a murder scene staged by a colorful cast of characters and unsuspecting suspects. During the course of your three-course dinner, someone in attendance will be killed off, and the rest of the guests will be left to solve the mystery. A bizarre investigation with hidden clues and red herrings gives diners the chance to come up with their best-guess theories and potentially win a reward for fingering the guilty party — but the fun is in trying to figure out which members of the party are on the level. Patrons do not know which guests are real and which ones are actors, and everyone is a suspect in the dramatic homicide.

Secrecy forbids us from revealing more details about the case, but this spoiler alert won’t spoil your dinner. Murder Mystery Dinner Theater guests are treated to some of the House of Blues’ favorite dishes, beginning with the first-course Blues Brothers Salad. The entree features the Citrus-Marinated Chicken Breast with rice pilaf and the vegetable of the season, and dessert — the HOB’s Bourbon Bread Pudding with bananas, white chocolate, a bourbon caramel sauce and whipped cream — may distract you from gathering all the facts. Mixed drinks, beer and wine are also available at the dinner service.

The Murder Mystery Dinner Theater includes a wide variety of scripts, so repeat visitors can expect a different experience each time they attend. Reservations are required for the Murder Mystery Dinner Theater, which begins at 7 p.m. sharp and requires guests to arrive by 6:45 p.m. to avoid any interruptions. The Murder Mystery Dinner Theater is one of many entertainment options offered by the House of Blues, which is located in the Barefoot Landing shopping and dining complex in North Myrtle Beach. Featuring a spacious dining facility and private ballrooms, a first-class concert venue featuring national touring acts, and the colorful Crossroads Bar with live local and regional music, the House of Blues is your one-stop hot spot for live music and shows. Here is a quick look at some of the HOB’s top draws:

* Concerts: The HOB brings in many big names to play at this intimate venue, as well as some acclaimed tribute bands performing covers of such popular artists as Journey (Departure, Jan. 21), Kid Rock (Cowboy, Feb. 3) and Guns & Roses (Appetite for Destruction, Feb. 11). Crossroads has live music six nights a week (sorry, Mondays) with no cover charge.

* Dinner: The off-season offers big discounts for early birds, who are flocking to the HOB in January and February. Beginning at 4 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, the HOB offers some of its best dishes for half price, including the St. Louis Ribs, Voodoo Chicken and Margherita Flatbread. Craft beers, drink specials and live music are also on tap.

* Gospel Brunch: The House of Blues goes all out on Sundays with a heaping helping of goodness for the body and soul. Featuring inspirational songs by talented choral performers and a buffet spread of the HOB’s best breakfast and lunch favorites, the Gospel Brunch is a great place to take the family for a hearty meal and an inspirational showcase.
