Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines and ready yourselves for NASCAR Racing Experience at Myrtle Beach Speedway.
The attraction, which made its debut this summer, allows new and diehard NASCAR fans to feel the thrill of bulleting around the track like their NASCAR heroes.
“NASCAR Racing Experience is the “official racing experience of NASCAR” offering real NASCAR race cars you can actually drive yourself,” said Heather Lutz, vice president of sales and marketing for NASCAR Racing Experience and Mario Andretti Racing Experience.
All NASCAR Racing Experience race cars have been driven by some of the sports’ biggest stars including Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt Jr., and Michael Waltrip.
“Participants attend a drivers meeting with [a] crew chief, get training and instruction and then get to actually drive a NASCAR race car by themselves,” Lutz said. “Every driver has two-way, in-car communications with a personal racing instructor as they race around the track.”
Believe it or not, passing is allowed.
Once the race is done, drivers receive their graduate certificate that includes their name, the date on which they raced, their top speed and a souvenir-racing license to show off to their family and friends.
“Myrtle Beach Speedway is a historical racetrack,” Lutz said. “Generations of NASCAR drivers have grown up racing at Myrtle Beach Speedway, including NASCAR’s most popular driver, Dale [Earnhardt] Jr.”
Lutz said NASCAR Racing Experience distinguishes itself from other attractions because of what it offers: an authentic NASCAR ride, in-car radio communications and a spotter.
“All of these things plus the overall experience make NASCAR Racing Experience the most realistic and unique racing experience.”
Participants can choose from six races, with prices ranging from $129.99 (for the “NASCAR Ride Along” currently on sale for $69.99) to $1299.99, which is the sale price for the Extraordinary Experience that usually costs $1,999.99.
The “NASCAR Ride Along” lets the participant ride as a passenger with a professional instructor who drives him or her in a NASCAR race car.
The ride is for “3 heart-pounding laps,” according to the website, nascarracingexperience.com.
The most expensive ride, the “Extraordinary Experience,” naturally pulls out all the stops.
This race comes with all the bells and whistles of the other five-featured races at Myrtle Beach Speedway plus (4) 8-minute solo runs, after receiving personal instruction from the racing instructor. Each driving session is up to 12 laps. The number of laps varies depending upon the participant’s driving ability and track conditions.
“Dates and times vary – drivers must be 18 years old and have a drivers license,” Lutz said. “Riders must be a least 5-feet tall and [weigh] 100 pounds to ride as a passenger.”
Upcoming race schedule dates include Sunday, Sept. 16; Sunday, Sept. 30; Wednesday, Oct. 3; Thursday, Oct. 4 and Friday, Oct. 5.
