Here are 10 common questions people have about Myrtle Beach. This 60-mile stretch of beach is known as the Grand Strand, and on it, there’s something for just about everyone. Although it’s famous for its golf courses, wide-open beaches, and wonderful food scene, there’s a lot more to this place to enjoy.

Question 1:

What games do you suggest for my family to play when we’re on the beach?

Answer:

It’s awesome how kids of all ages can get a bucket and pail and have a blast at Myrtle Beach. We’ve seen sand castles and sand sculptures that really impressed us! Playing at the beach can be simple – just bring a ball or Frisbee for some catch – or favorites such as cornhole and spikeball. Visit Eagles Beachwear or any of several shops along the Grand Strand for beach toys you might not have even seen before.

Question 2:

I’ve seen bodyboarding on TV. It looks fun … is Myrtle Beach a good spot for that?

Answer:

Myrtle Beach is an awesome place to bodyboard! It’s fun and simple. You’re basically surfing – on your belly! Indigenous Polynesians in ancient times rode alaia boards in much the same way. Just take your bodyboard into the ocean (try Surf City Surf Shop for a cool one), turn toward shore just as the wave approaches, and ride it on in. It’s a ton of fun, but did you know it’s also a serious sport for professionals? Maybe you’ll perfect a few moves and go pro.

Question 3:

I’d like to kick it up a notch and surf in Myrtle Beach. Can I learn there?

Answer:

Definitely. California and Florida are famous for their waves, but the S.C. scene – especially Myrtle Beach – isn’t bad either. Check with Kokopelli Surf Lessons. You can schedule a lesson and rent your board there, and they also have stand-up bodyboards and kayaks. Another good spot is Jack’s Surf Lessons and Board Rentals. They’re the first surf school in the area, and they know Myrtle Beach and Murrells Inlet waters better than anyone.

Question 4:

I love to fish. Any chance I could cast a line when I visit?

Answer:

There are so many options, from inland to deep-sea charters. Fish off a pier. Myrtle Beach has freshwater and saltwater to chose from. We’ve got black sea bass, dolphin, grouper, king mackerel, large sea bass, snapper, trigger, and wahoo, among others. Myrtle Beach Guide Service will take you not only to Myrtle Beach, but also to closeby Murrells Inlet and Pawleys Island. Give Myrtle Beach Sport Fishing a call at (843) 231-5453 for expert guides, too.

I tried parasailing once. Is Myrtle Beach a good scene for that?

Answer:

That’s cool – and yes, you can do that here, too. To rise up hundreds of feet above the ocean for a one-of-a-kind view is exhilarating. A boat carries you out on the ocean, then you lift into the sky for the ride of your life. Downwind Sails is a good spot in Myrtle Beach to try it out, and they offer other services, such as jet-ski rentals and banana-boat rides. Call Ocean Watersports (843-445-7777) to ride with experts – they get rave reviews for their service, too.

Question 6:

What about off the beach? We come to Myrtle Beach every summer and have seen so much. Is there anything new, especially for the kids?

Answer:

You have to check out the new penguin exhibit at Ripley’s Aquarium. The place has undergone a huge expansion, which includes a penguin habitat. It’s part of a conservation effort for the endangered African penguin. There’s floor-to-ceiling glass more than 50 feet long where you can see penguins swimming. The kids will love the penguin nursery, too. Ripley’s has 8 new tanks with an array of fish from around the world.

Question 7:

Where’s a good place to hike in Myrtle Beach?

Answer:

Our favorite spot is Myrtle Beach State Park. It’s 300-plus acres and the first in the state, opening in 1936. Two easy trails in the park, Sculpture Oak and Yaupon – include incredible scenery and access to the beach. You’ll get a glimpse of what the area looked like way back when. Many amphibians, birds, and reptiles live among the hollies, magnolias, oaks, poplars, and wax myrtles (for which Myrtle Beach is named).

Question 8:

What’s a great place for a little serenity in the area?

Answer:

When you’re here, we recommend you experience Brookgreen Gardens. You could easily spend an entire day on the grounds, which TripAdvisor named one of the top 10 gardens nationwide. The Live Oak Allée features trees planted in the early 1700s. Among the natural beauty, Brookgreen features more than 2,000 sculptures on the grounds and places to rest and reflect away from the buzz of Myrtle Beach.

Question 9:

My kids can’t wait to get to a water park. Where should we take them?

Answer: Myrtle Waves Water Park is the place for you. This place is LOADED with water slides and tube slides the whole family will love. We really like the ocean in motion wave pool. FlowRider is the park’s signature attraction, which simulates the thrill of riding a wave. Bubble Bay is made just for toddlers, and you can also rent cabanas for the day. It’s also cool that you can order food on their app and not have to wait in line.
