After Labor Day Is Done, the Fun Events Just Keep Coming in Myrtle Beach This September

In the Myrtle Beach area, September always kicks off with a bang. That’s because the month’s opening Monday is Labor Day, a holiday widely known by vacationers as the unofficial end of summer — and a fantastic time to squeeze in one last beach getaway before the new school year starts.

But especially in 2023, the September festivities in Myrtle Beach definitely don’t end with the long holiday weekend. In fact, the September events calendar on the Grand Strand is packed with fun things to do — and compelling reasons to visit throughout the month.

Consider these five highlights from the area’s September events calendar, and start making plans to join us on the Carolina coast for your favorite(s):

Myrtle Beach Picnic & Food Truck Festival, September 1-3

A must-attend for local and vacationing foodies, the Myrtle Beach Picnic & Food Truck Festival sees more than 50 food trucks from around the region converge on Burroughs & Chapin Pavilion Place on the Myrtle Beach oceanfront. In addition to the tasty offerings on tap ranging from Mexican fare and soul food to barbecue, burgers and even booze pops, the popular event features live entertainment, beer and wine sales, and a collection of booths set up by local artisans and other vendors. And to add to the allure, an associated car/bike/truck/Jeep show coincides with the event.

Myrtle Beach Mustang Week, September 4-9

Kicking off on Labor Day this year, Myrtle Beach Mustang Week is the world’s largest celebration of the iconic Ford Mustang. Held at Myrtle Beach Mall, the weeklong event features a range of attractions — including hundreds of examples of the classic American muscle car the event is named for on display, all free of charge for spectators.

South Carolina’s Largest Garage Sale, September 9

Held at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, South Carolina’s Largest Garage Sale sees a huge collection of vendors set up their booths under one roof. This enables shoppers to check out the sellers’ offerings without all the travel time involved in garage-sale shopping, and all with free admission. Attend to find bargain-priced antiques, jewelry, electronics, housewares, collectibles, clothing, toys — and who knows what else — all in one place.

The Grand Strand Sushi Showdown, September 24

Another exciting event rolling into the Myrtle Beach Convention Center in September, the Grand Strand Sushi Showdown puts a spotlight on one of Japan’s most beloved culinary traditions — sushi. Attendees will get the opportunity to taste samples of some of the Grand Strand’s best sushi offerings — and it’s an all-you-can-eat affair! Entertainment, local vendors and drink sales will round out the attractions on tap.
