Bay View Resort guests who visit during the holidays are in luck. There are so many fun things to do and see to get into the holiday spirit that will make your stay at Bay View even more enjoyable than normal. No matter when you are visiting, there is sure to be something good cooking at one of these holiday-themed events:

Nov. 2-Dec. 31, Christmas Shows at Local Theaters: Kick back and prepare to get into the Christmas spirit at one of the many award-winning holiday shows on the Grand Strand. Beginning Nov. 2, the curtain raises on several holiday shows, including the Alabama Theatre’s “The South’s Grandest Christmas,” The Carolina Opry’s “Christmas Show of the South,” and the Palace Theatre’s “Christmas Wonderland.” The family friendly shows are sure to get everyone ready for the holidays with professional performances of song, dance, ice skating, comedy, and, of course, an appearance by Santa Claus.

Nov. 12-14, Dickens Christmas Show & Festivals: For three days in mid-November, the Myrtle Beach Convention Center travels back in time to recreate an authentic Olde English village straight out of the pages of Charles Dickens’ classic novel “A Christmas Story.” Go shopping at the open market for antique and handmade gifts, arts and crafts, holiday decorations and more. Exhibits highlight the history of Christmas pasts and other holiday novelties, and several off-site events are at local theaters, restaurants and attractions throughout the season.

Nov. 26-28, South Carolina State Bluegrass Festival: This 46th annual event is a Thanksgiving weekend tradition on the Grand Strand. Featuring some of the biggest names in bluegrass, acoustic and gospel music performing for three days at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, this festival attracts large crowds to see such artists as Daly & Vincent, Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, and others in an intimate setting. Enjoy the sounds of the Appalachian Mountains, in the heart of the Grand Strand at this popular event.

Nov. 26-Dec 31: Christmas Wonderland: The new North Myrtle Beach Sports and Recreation Center is magically transformed into a Christmas Wonderland during the holidays. Held from Nov. 26 through Dec. 31, this festival features a wide range of Christmas activities for the whole family, but the highlight is the Hayride Lights Extravaganza. Guests can snuggle up in a wagon and ride through the high-tech light display while holiday music plays in concert with the dazzling light show. Held from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m., the Christmas Wonderland also features a 3D Walk to the North Pole, a Christmas Under the Sea Puppet Show, Rudolph’s Buddies Petting Zoo, the Great Christmas Paintball Challenge, and the Cirqu-Du-Elf circus act, as well as live music, Santa photos and fireworks. Admission is free but some activities require a small fee.

Nov. 28, Intracoastal Christmas Regatta: Christmas parade floats take on a new meaning at this unique event, which features dozens of brightly decorated boats sailing down the Intracoastal Waterway. Find a good viewing spot on the banks and watch this Christmas flotilla flow down the water in the North Myrtle Beach area. This annual tradition features everything from tiny boats to large yachts taking part in the parade, which begins at 5 p.m. in Little River Inlet and concludes with a party at Dock Holiday’s at 7 p.m.

Dec. 3-19, Nights of a Thousand Candles: Don’t let these dates slip up on you. For nine nights only, Brookgreen Gardens is magically transformed into a nighttime winter wonderland with candles illuminating the beautiful plants and artwork at this 9,000-acre botanical sculpture garden. This is the only time of year Brookgreen Gardens is open after dark, and the more than 5,000 candles used to light up the park provide a unique perspective of the Lowcountry attraction as well as putting visitors in the holiday spirit. Enjoy the lights, holiday decorations, Christmas caroling and other performances from 3 to 10 p.m.

Dec. 26-31, Beach Ball Classic: The British call the day after Christmas “Boxing Day,” but on the Grand Strand it’s known as “Hoops Day.” For the past 35 years, Dec. 26 marks the tip off of one of the biggest high school basketball tournaments in the nation. The Beach Ball Classic attracts some of the top teams and talent to the Myrtle Beach Convention Center for six days of high-flying action at this hoops showcase. See the future stars of college basketball and the NBA today and enjoy some great competition for the holidays.

After a long day or night at these holiday events, come back to your vacation home away from home at Bay View Resort and relax with a smile on your face and the holiday spirit in your soul.
