But more importantly, your stay at Bay View means you’re just minutes away from some of the best golf courses on the Grand Strand. So take some time out of your vacation and take in the rolling fairways and coastal scenery of one of Myrtle Beach’s award winning golf courses.
Bay View Resort’s friendly staff and experienced golf directors are ready and waiting to help you add a golf adventure to your next Myrtle Beach vacation. Just moments away from the doors of Bay View, here are three courses that are a must to check out:
- The Wizard Golf Club
With so many options for golf in the Myrtle Beach area, it can be difficult for some courses to stand apart as an unexpected golf experience. That is no trouble at all for The Wizard, designed by Dan Maples. Without exactly replicating the experience of playing golf in Scotland, Maples nonetheless applied a number of the features of the world’s most ancient courses to a South Carolina setting. The Wizard is open and more exposed to the wind than most other area courses, and with Maples having moved more than 1,000,000 cubic yards of earth to build it, it features extensive mounding and elevation changes unlike most area courses. A castle-styled clubhouse adds to The Wizard’s whimsical charm. - The Man O’War Golf Club
Although it is next-door neighbors with The Wizard, Man O’War is quite a different golfing experience, with more tree-lined holes and gentler slopes. Where The Wizard course uses elevation as its greatest obstacle, Man O’War uses water, coming into play on nearly every hole, and particularly at its two island-green holes. Nevertheless, Man O’War is one of the gentler golf courses you are likely to find in the Myrtle Beach area for two reasons. First, as a shorter course, even rusty players will find more par and birdie opportunities than usual. And second, Man O’War’s generously sized greens reduce the pressure when it comes to the irons and the short game. - The Hackler Course at Coastal Carolina University
The Hackler Course at Coastal Carolina University is located just a few miles inland from central Myrtle Beach off of Highway 501 and very much in the center of the Grand Strand. Craig Schreiner breathed new life into the layout as part of a comprehensive renovation in 2011. Initially known as Quail Creek Golf Club, it was renamed the Hackler Course after General James “Jim” Hackler, a longtime University benefactor and major figure in the Grand Strand golf community. On a given day you may be sharing the course with Coastal Carolina University’s highly ranked men’s and women’s golf teams as well as general students seeking exercise and the love of golf. The pro shop carries a full range of Coastal Carolina University-branded apparel for all fans of the Chanticleers and their golf course.
Regardless of the courses you play, you can take in a round and know that the comforts and pleasures of the resort-life at Bay View will only add to the overall vacation experience.
