It’s Gonna Be Hot: The World Champion Chili Cookoff Is Coming to Myrtle Beach

There’s potential for things to get even hotter this summer in Myrtle Beach.

We’re not talking about the weather. The spice will fly with the World Championship Chili Cookoff. The 55th annual event will be Sept. 23-25 and return to Myrtle Beach for the second straight year.

Imagine getting to sample more than 500 award-winning chili — for FREE.

Who is putting on the chili contest in Myrtle Beach?

This is an International Chili Society event. Hundreds of chili chefs compete nationwide to qualify for the final. Your votes will help choose the People’s Choice winner.

There’s a car show and special guests often stop by. (Brian Baumgardner, Kevin from “The Office,” has made an appearance.)

Did you know you could become a certified chili contest judge? There’s a class on Sept. 22 for it.

What’s at stake?

The title of World Champion, and a share of the $75,000 purse. For the spectator, this one is easy: taste chili, and enjoy beer gardens and food trucks. There will be craft and retail vendors, a kid zone, live music, and more.

(The kid zone will feature bounce houses, face painting, games, and slides. Plus, there will be kid-friendly foods if your tots aren’t touting chili yet.)
