The “Queen of Southern Cuisine” might not be quite ready to ring the dinner bell in Myrtle Beach, but let’s just say the biscuits are in the oven. After popular chef/restaurateur Paula Deen expands her latest line of country-cooking eateries to the Grand Strand’s already tasty dining lineup sometime this spring, guests at Bay View on the Boardwalk are welcome to belly up to the supper table and enjoy a heaping helping of stick-to-your-ribs Southern food and hospitality.
Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen, the restaurant whose namesake created a culinary empire built on country cooking and down-home charm, plans to open its second location at Broadway at the Beach in 2017. Deen, who also co-owns restaurants with her sons in Savannah, Georgia, and elsewhere in the South, also opened her self-titled retail store at Broadway at the Beach last year. But her new restaurant, first launched in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, puts the focus on the concept of family dining, where patrons gather around large tables and self-serve from platters and bowls of some of her most famous recipes.
Much like dinner tables in happy homes throughout the South, Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen puts out a delicious spread for parties to enjoy without interruption. There’s no endless individual ordering or waiting for all the courses to be delivered. Instead, parties select from a list of family-style dining options, picking their favorite entrees and side dishes, and pass the platters around the table for a true down-home experience that preserves the family feast as a sacred tradition.
Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen goes all out for the first meal of the day. Order and share Paula’s famous Chicken and Waffles, Bananas Foster French Toast, Sweet Little Piggies in a Blanket and Everyday Breakfast Casserole filled with all your favorites. Patrons also choose from bacon, sausage, eggs, biscuits and gravy, hash browns, grits, and fresh fruit – everything a family needs to fuel up for a full day of Myrtle Beach vacationing.
Lunch offers a selection of lighter fare for those on the go, including Grandmama Paula’s Fried Green Tomatoes, her “Shore Is Good” Seafood Dip, Bobby’s Pimento Cheese and fried okra. Dinner dishes are also available for lunch and include cheesy meatloaf, chicken-fried pork chops, beef pot roast, spare ribs, chicken and dumplings, Georgia fried catfish, and Deen’s famous Best-Ever Southern Fried Chicken – a closely guarded family recipe that is so good it will melt in your mouth.
Side items normally play second fiddle to the main dishes, but not at Paul Deen’s Family Kitchen. Patrons can pick up to four sides, such as green beans, creamed potatoes, buttered white rice, mac and cheese, collard greens, candied yams, squash casserole, black-eyed peas, Porky Beans, creamed corn, cole slaw and poppy-seed tossed salad. Best of all, each guest gets his or her own dessert, like banana pudding, fruit-filled cobbler and the one-of-a-kind Ooey Gooey Butter Cake.
Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen is just one of many new restaurants coming to Broadway at the Beach in 2017. Wahlburgers, the national chain made famous by the hit TV show starring the Wahlberg brothers, opened at the end of 2016 and has been serving its fare to long lines of hungry patrons and celebrity seekers. Hard Rock Cafe, previously located in the giant pyramid building at Celebrity Square, has relocated a few doors down and features a revamped menu and new memorabilia displays.
Coming soon are several highly anticipated restaurants, such as Dave & Busters. The popular sports-bar chain offers food, fun and video games for the whole family. Another family-friendly venue is Extreme Pizza, which takes the traditional version to the next level with unique toppings and ingredients. Broadway also has all the old favorites, such as Key West Grill, King Kong Sushi, Liberty Brewery & Grill, Senor Frog’s, Landry’s Seafood, Rooster’s, Yamato and many more for Bay View Resort guests to test.
