There are lots of words to describe the sights and scenery along the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk. Subtle is not one of them.
Yes, the eastern view from the Boardwalk is a beautiful as it gets – undulating dunes, white-sand beaches and the Atlantic Ocean. But turn to the west and you will see some of Myrtle Beach’s man-made wonders, often lit up in neon so you’re sure to see them.
Here are five places along the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk you don’t want to (and can’t help but) miss. Be sure to take a camera for some uniquely Myrtle Beach memories:
Myrtle Beach SkyWheel: It’s impossible to miss this towering, 190-foot monster Ferris wheel lighting up the Myrtle Beach skyline. Emblazed in dancing neon patterns so it can be seen from space, this attraction is well worth a ride to the top for great views and photo ops of both the ocean and the downtown district. Take a spin in climate-controlled gondolas and scout out the next location on your tour de tourist attractions.
Ripley’s Believe It or Not: The man who brought us the creepy book of world records you couldn’t help but look at does the same with his many museums along Ocean Boulevard. The Ripley’s Odditorium! Has a large cosmetic crack in the walls that house a unique collection of exhibits from around the world, while the Haunted House has spooky creatures out front to scare up business.
The Gay Dolphin: The first beachwear/gift store in downtown Myrtle Beach serves as a bit of a museum of novelty items and Myrtle Beach history. Generations of tourists have scaled the crow’s nest that sits atop the three-story shop for a great view and photo op.
Peaches Corner: The giant revolving peach on the roof says you’ve arrived at this 75-year-old institution, but many repeat customers swear they can follow their noses to the smell of grilled burgers and hot dogs. Ice cream may be harder to detect but it’s the perfect way to cool off on a hot summer day.
Plyler Park: So this plaza might not look like much by day, things come to life at night with free concerts, fireworks shows and other festivals. Myrtle Beach’s Hot Summer Nights event features a kids festival, live music and fireworks so there’s something going on every night of the week.
